I frame my own paintings to maintain control of the total design and presentation, considering the frame an extension of the artwork itself.
My frames rely on simplicity, individuality and truth - letting the quality of the materials shine through.
Here are some examples of the typical types I turn to.
Solid Oak
A solid oak frame with gilded chamfered sight edge and incised line shaded with red bole. A slight feel of the pre-raphaelite.
Best suited for still life, portraiture or low key scenes.
Ebonised Oak
A solid oak frame again, this time darkened using an iron acetate solution which chemically reacts with the tannin of the wood. This leaves the beautiful wood grain intact, with a complex and deep patina. Gilded sight edge is, in this case, heavily distressed revealing the bole beneath.
Ideal for still life or Dutch-inspired subjects.
