Pursuing Putney Pier

Putney Pier, Sunrise

Hello there. Oof. Almost 2 months since I last updated the website. So much for a weekly commitment!

My only excuse is that for four weeks I was attending an intensive painting workshop by Paul Ingbretson in London and didn’t have time for much else - a tremendously insightful and useful experience. More on that another time.

In addition to the workshop itself, I had the pleasure of exploring Putney through plein air painting and thought I’d share a few sketches.

Putney Pier, Morning

Putney Pier, Sunset

Putney Pier, Overcast

Despite always hankering for sunnier effects to paint, I most enjoy the subdued local colours of the grey day scene. These were all attempts at relating colour value masses to achieve a true sense of light effect. All were single sessions, as I found the same day seldom repeated itself, leaving the paintings as sketches.

These have been added to the landscape section of my website and can be seen in the upcoming Tywi Valley Open Art trail at the end of the month.

Until next time!

- Jack
