Throwback To Winter

Hello there,

The longer days and sunny weather has had me out painting and not updating the website much! Typical. I’ll have more to share in upcoming weeks, but for now here are some older paintings. Studies, really, where I’m trying to steady my process.

First is a winter poinsettia set amidst the jumble of spices on our kitchen window sill. Recent home renovation means this view no longer exists. I won’t miss those colourful tiles, to be honest. I was drawn to the pop of red foliage in the dark house, so did my best to keep this effect.

The second painting of various jugs, clay model stand and fruit is a first effort of ‘colour spotting’ from the start, without first relying on an outline-based drawing. I just looked over and there was an admirably composed scene sitting in my home studio; a testament to the virtue of a bit of messiness perhaps.

Both paintings can be found in the still life section.

Until next time

Jack
